Graphic Design

logo.png

This is a collection of my creations in my graphic design elective. I never learned to love Illustrator, so to my teachers dismay I continued to use Photoshop.

Logo
This design relates to me because its as obscure as i seem to most strangers. My inspiration for this design Led Zeppelin’s mysterious symbols and Celtic knots. The eye in the middle represents how visual i am. As an abstract expressionist photographer and painter, i see the forms and lines in the world around me. My favorite has always been the triangle. And i've doodled this curly triangle for years. I then decided to warp the logo and text, as I have a warped sense of humor and it added intrigue to the design. I choose a camping and dull color scheme as it matches my physical appearance. I wanted a 60’s or 70’s style font. And I didnt like how much it differed from the design, so I matched the twisted shape. I wanted to make a design that people could admire and find something about themselves within the vague design. This logo could be used for most products marketed to most young people as most adults may find it odd. Kids these days really care about brands and logos, so if the brand is well known enough, it doesn't matter what the logo looks like if the brand is considered “hip” kids will wear a shirt with the logo on it.

Cookie Box
I like to incorporate some of my new pieces into my designs, that is the background of the box. And it only seemed fitting to create a far out brand to match the box. I liked the idea of a full pattern box, as it is uncommon and eye catching. Pink Floyd is my favorite band, so I knew I wanted to incorporate them in. I decided on using the album cover from the dark side of the moon because it is the most graphic. And it's one of there more known albums, it's NOT there best album. Overall my design has great movement, while the logo is still emphasised and the main focal point.

House
For this assignment we supposed to create a vector drawing of house. But the examples seemed so suburbian and preppy. So naturally I felt the need to go the opposite direction. The base image of this photo is an abandoned home, near Moravian Tile Works. The house was covered in graffiti, because some of it was undecipherable, I wasn't able to recreate all of it. I was impressed by the options to create foliage in Illustrator. They we all to clean cut and pretty. So edited the base image in photoshop, so the background would match the grunginess of the house.

Shoe
This piece was one of the first we did in class, and this is when my bad relationship with illustrator started.  But I prevailed and I am content with the final product. The base image is a vector drawing of my yellow old skool vans. I then duplicated it several times and placed them in different orientations. I then changed the blending modes, to create a better color scheme. And in the end created the composition by liquefying the shoe, this gave the piece interesting movement. And the limited color scheme gave the piece unity and emphasis. Overall this piece made me excited to see what was yet to come in this elective.

Portrait
I took this photo of my peer, Katie, for the AP art show. This years theme was film noir, though you can't tell because I used flash for the photo. We decided to use a phone as a prop and unplugged Mrs.Ferenchak’s. I was supposed to make a vector drawing from the image, but I used image trace to get this color blocking look. Because this was project was inspired by Shepard Fairey’s famous portraits, we had to pick one word as a tagline. And with the phone in her hand, hello seemed fitting. I then wanted to create a text that matched the whimsical style and color scheme of the photo.
